Sometimes you just need to run for hills to disappear for a couple of days and be with nature. Full disclosure, we are not the outdoorsy type. We appreciate indoor plumbing and climate control. So is #VRBO is the great option for our family.
We booked a cabin in Payson, AZ. Important factors in our decision where availability, cleanliness, location (no cityscape please), and WiFi. For the kids it was phones away and TVs off but work still needed to be done from the comfort of new surroundings.
We picked a winner. Especially loved the wraparound porch and porch swing.
Self guided excursions were how we spent our days. We visited the #NaturalBridge, hiked the Water Wheel Falls Hiking Trail, and fished and listened to music at Green Valley Park.
Quick notes about the falls:
We went after some very heavy rains and flooding so the water was pretty dirty.
While we were told this was an easy hike, it wasn’t. Lots of climbing over boulders and searching for safe footing.
HER HIGHLIGHTS
The view from the falls was beautiful and the fact that we made it was pretty awesome.
Dancing with him in the park is always a favorite!
HIS HIGHLIGHTS
Is was super easy to find and park at the trailheads.
Crossing paths with three huge elk near the cabin.
THEIR HIGHLIGHTS
The cabin - the neighborhood and the porch swing.
Dinner at Rim Country BBQ - the pork was cracked.
Things to consider:
Everything shuts down early.
Plan to eat early. Lots of places close at 8:00 for dinner and by 8:00 many places are sold out of local favorites.
When picking a cabin, try to find a place with a view!
